The Blairnt Central Studio Log 11-19-06 - I just finished recording "Bring Em' On" and have posted a demo mix of the tune... you can listen to it by clicking right here.
11-18-06 - Coming your way soon.
11-5-06 - After a couple of months off from the studio to do a little fly fishing in Montana I finally have had a few days to mess around recording. This is the latest offering it is a test mix of a song called "Poker For Plastic Turtles" you can click here to download. Stay tuned for the new CD "Organic" due out late next month.
7-11-06 - The 4th is now ranked #1 on the Instrumental charts for the week on mixposure.com, now lets see how long it holds. Hmm now this is surprising The 4th is ranked at number 2 in the top 100 charts for ALL genres including pop, hip-hop, rock, and country music, now that's not bad for a rock instrumental tune. Us poor rock instrumental writers are usually lucky to get anything on any chart let alone in the top 100 overall and even less likely in the top 10. Check out the charts www.mixposure.com
7-9-06 (PM) - My brother Tim was out to the studio this evening to do a little tracking on the drums. Things are going along well and Tim is doing an outstanding job.
Tim concentrates on his part, or just perhaps pondering a cheeseburger.
Let me see if I can get this... if I hit this and then maybe this other thingy right here.
7-9-06 (AM) - Hey I just made this song up and recorded it this evening its called Got Dog?
6-29-06 - Hi Everyone! I've been busy Not working on tunes for the past two weeks... trying to line up a drummer. It's going a bit slow. The website Mixposure.com has issued a couple of Awards for Blairnt Central music, this is a great site to get your music heard and reviewed by other musicians and is a resource I would encourage any musician or band to use. For "Alternate Agenda" For "Alternate Agenda" For "For Jef" For "For Jef" 6-18-06 - New tune Organic I came up with this morning. Click the title to listen. 6-18-06 - Saturday I came up with this new tune about genetically modified foods, you know tomatoes with cockroach genes, pork with jellyfish genes... You know that kind of stuff. You get the picture. This song features Aaron Wilson backwards drum specialist and motocross kid playing the backward drum section at the very end of the song. Click here to listen -> It Tastes Just Like Chicken <- Click here to listen Here are some links to some good info on the subject. http://www.organicconsumers.org/index.htm http://www.gmwatch.org/p1temp.asp?pid=1&page=1 6-11-06 - A new tune... with vocals. What the heck? Click on the title to listen. 6-8-06 - Brother Tim aka "Sticks & Moles" has a few new songs for all to hear. I make a guest appearance on the song called "Sound Puddle" doing a little wah guitar and synth sounds. At the time the tune was known as Mind Puddle. The next song is one that Tim calls "I have no Idea" the other songs can be found right here:

Sound Puddle - Stick & Moles w/ Blairnt Central I have no Idea - Stick & Moles 6-4-06 - New Tune (Demo Mix) =====> AM <====== Click to listen. 5-30-06 - OK, so say you are a computer technician and are responsible for many companies computer networks and data. One of the first concerns is getting good backups, we always stress to the customer BACKUP YOUR DATA! In fact as a good technician you should dummy proof the backup for the customer so that a good backup happens automatically no matter what. That is what I do for my customers and wouldn't think of them going without a backup period. Having said that there is a story to this morel and sometimes the cobblers kid has the worst shoes. Lets just say that I Do NOW have a new backup system in place along with current backups and plenty of tapes. Oh, and neat demo mixes of a lot of tunes that I may or may not re-record. Here is a demo mix of a new tune called "Boot Device Not Found" click on the song title to listen. I'm going to add parts and remix it later... if I have to I'll restore it from a backup. Ouch! 5-11-06 - Re recorded parts to the song FOG. I extended the intro just slightly added Mellotron (fake of course, heck Rick Wakeman couldn't keep his in tune) and guitar. Re recorded the violin parts and generally revamped the whole thing. Listen here: FOG (Guitar Mix). 5-7-06 - I've finished two new songs. The first one "Freedom is Beautiful" is one I've been working on for a couple of days now. The song was originally called "The state of the Union" but since it has a nice little string quartet section in the middle I decided to leave it as "Freedom is Beautiful" besides if G.W. say's it, it has got to be true. Right? The second song "Christina's Lullaby" I just made up this morning while my wife was sleeping. Mmm, Mmm... coffee and recording what a way to start off the day. And later that day... After taking the dogs out to the river with my wife I recorded this tune called "Fog". It could be the quickest I've ever made up and recorded a song. BAM! As Emeril would say... OK, OK, So I watch the cooking channel. 5-1-06 - Saturday I threw my hands up in the air and decided that I wasn't going to work on the new CD and to work on the OTHER new CD instead so I figured I'd just sit down and come up with a new song. This project will primarily be myself playing all of the parts... no bringing in other drummers or musicians. Less waiting to get things done that way. Nothing against my other musician friends, I'm just impatient. Although my drumming sucks I might just be able to do it ok. Here's the first song: WAR A little more about this later... 4-24-06 - I ended up getting the blues this weekend and decided to record a blues tune called "I'm the person that gets to decide not you". The song really just started out as an experiment with breaking in a new set of strings on the strat then it sort of progressed into some guitar synth playing some muted trumpet and well, it goes on and on... my wife is such a trooper when I disappear into the twilight zone that I refer to as Blairnt Central or the studio. Check out the quick mix by clicking here: I'm the person that gets to decide not you Thanks to Paul Watson & Alex Jones for the inspiration. 4-22-06 - My friend Brian Cokeley just told me that the show with his band Presto Ballet has been cancelled. They were slated to open up for the band Spocks Beard on may 9th in Seattle and had to cancel due to band leader Kurdt's recording commitments with Metal Church who is working on a new record. Hopefully this will be a blessing in disguise and will free up Brian to do a little tracking on the new CD. We'll see how schedules go. Other up coming shows with Presto Ballet include CALPROG so please try to catch this fantastic band live. You can buy the new Presto Ballet CD "Peace Among the Runes" by clicking right here. OK enough blabbing for now... time to head out to the studio for some tracking... BP 4-17-06 - Hi all! I hope everyone had a great Easter. Started tracking a new tune Saturday... I'm not sure what it will be called yet as usual. I guess when you don't have lyrics you will run into that sort of thing. Got some Acoustic guitar, Electric guitar, Horns, and a little Synth done. Of course all is subject to change. The tune should be pretty cool, it's got a snappy little Latin section that is a lot of fun. Now I need drum tracks! Time to get "Thumper" or "Duke" out to the studio to bang on stuff so if you read this c'mon out. Got to go to work... 4-9-06 - Hi all. I spent the day yesterday recording organ, bells, guitar lead parts and harmonies to an old song called "Moving On" I think I'm going to record two versions of this song. One with vocals and an instrumental version (the instrumental version will likely end up on the CD) I just finished the lyrics for it but my vocal really sucks so I'm going to shelf it for now. Today will be more overdubs and getting some copies together for Mike Peterson (Seahawks Drume Line) & Brian Cokeley (Presto Ballet) so they can work some of they're musical magic. 4-1-06 - Recording continues for the new CD. I started tracking a couple of new tunes this weekend. One will be called "Sky" and who knows what the other idea's will end up as... hey that's the adventure of it all. 3-29-06 - OK, how in the heck do all of the working stiffs out there actually make a record. I swear at this rate it's gonna take another two years to get done... Alright I just had to complain a little bit... Not enough hours in the day. 3-28-06 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTINA! Lordy, lordy look who's 40! It's only worse if you are me because I'm 43. Love you dear!
3-26-06 - More guitar synthesizer tracks, this thing is great fun. 3-25-06 - On Saturday my friend Duke from the band Six Pack Pretty was kind enough to do some drum tracking for the new CD. It was a lot of fun to get together after several years so thanks Duke. I also have to thank Les at Rosevears Music Center in Aberdeen for the use of the Roland GR-20 guitar synth. What a wonderful and useful piece of gear for a non keyboard player such as myself. The only problem is that I have to give it back now. ~BP
Duke warms up for tracking.
Many thanks to Les Blue for the use of the Roland GR-20 guitar synth. 3-5-06 - My wife and I spent the day yesterday painting our kitchen & living room so I didn't get any work done on the CD however the new color looks pretty good I must say. So I spent most of the day today working on "Alternate Agenda" I completely re-recorded the entire middle section of the song Including Bells, Bass (ouch), Guitar (mostly clean & FX wah noise, swells and that sort of stuff). I dubbed in a few voice over tracks of King George. I don't usually do this but this time I documented the entire adventure in photos... why?... to share the madness of course... I'm going to try to document the making of the new CD so I'll be adding more photos as guest's appear at the studio. Enter Blairnt Central.
Ahhh... some happy guitar.
Playing marimba sounds on an octapad. Remember Octapads?
More guitar parts.
Overdubbing the middle section bass line.
And if you haven't been playing bass enough...
Blisters will happen... 2-27-06 - I spent a few hours Sat. cleaning up tracks for "Alternate Agenda" I'll need to re-record two little bass sections I noticed while in the process... I hate it when that happens. A few other small overdubs and the tune will be ready to send out to mix. Yesterday my brother Tim came out and recorded a fine wah solo on the tune "March of the Neocons" which is almost finished as well. I'll probably edit a minute or so off of the end of it. 2-20-06 - Almost finished with "March of the Neocons" my little tribute the the so called conservatives in the Whitehouse. You can check out a demo mix on the music page. This will be on the new CD when it is finished... of course the mixed version will have a few different parts and will be mastered. However for working purposes and fun I will occasionally post working or demo copies on the web site. Here is what people have to say so far:
Stay tuned... 2-18-06 - I figured I better do a little update for all 5 of you who may read this. I'm proud to announce that Geraldo D'arbilly has officially agreed to mix the new CD and will more then likely have some hand in production as well. As a Musician, Producer, and Sound Engineer, Geraldo D'arbilly has produced many national and foreign artists. He lived in England 7 years, where he worked with such well known artists as Madness, David Byrne, David Bowie, Blue Rondo a la Turk, Fun Boy Three, and too many others to name here. Geraldo now lives in Brazil where he continues to Produce great music. I hope he can deal with my raw Blairnt style home recordings, we aren't exactly Sony around here and I won't even mention the budget for the CD. For more about Geraldo you can visit his website here please stop by and say hello also check out his amazing discography. So far the total cast includes Myself and Mike Peterson aka Thumper on the drums. Mike is better known with his drumming for the rock band JED, Healer, and the Seattle Seahawks drum line. He is a very talented drummer and a pleasure to work with. You can read a great article about Mike by clicking here. The interesting thing is that the CD will involve very little pre-production and will really be a sound scape creation put together by me alone in the studio with many parts being improvised. It involves a lot of cut and paste arranging on the fly and the drummer really has no idea what is happening with the music. Now trust me this can have real limitations too but I love this method because with little to nothing being pre conceived you are always surprised at what happens in the end of course the bad surprises never make it out the door. Plans do include a few guest's so stay tuned for more news later. And now the studio awaits me... Got to go. ~BP 2-7-06 - I got a little bit done on the new yet to be named CD this last weekend. More of the same... only different. 1-30-06 - Tons of overdubs. Guitar, Organ, Strings. Spent most of the day Sat. and part of Sunday getting parts done. The arrangement (I think) is finally done for the new prog. tune. 1-23-05 - While everyone else watches NFL football I lock myself away in the recording studio for some high adventure. The current drummer I am working with is of course playing drums today with the Seattle Seahawks Blue Thunder Drum Line... and it looks like he's going to the Super Bowl. Wow, I got a lot of work done in the studio this weekend. Good! A ton of drum editing and a few cymbal overdubs, acoustic & electric guitars, strings, xylophone, synthesizer stuff and just a bunch of other tidbits. Well got to get to work on my real job... BP out. 1-16-06 - More drum editing, and lots of it with this current song clocking in at over 10:00 minutes long. Sheez... what am I thinking. Some synth & guitar overdubs too. 1-8-06 - Drum editing today, it's not the most fun thing to do but hey somebody's got to do it. Another Thumper & BP tune. It should be interesting and at this time nameless. 1-1-06 - A little update... Christmas CD's (Sorry Not For Sale).
Christmas projects. Out of the Archives II & Clovers Bones and a pile of other stuff.
CD cover.
CD Inside sleeve.
CD Back.
Out of the Archives II.
Archives II inside sleeve.
Archives II back cover. 11-29-05 - Things are moving along at a slow but steady pace here at Blairnt. I'm in the process of putting the final touches on a song called "Alternate Agenda" which was inspired by the passing of the Patriot Act II a while back. I think there is going to be several different versions of this song... the one I will provide here for you to listen to will most likely not be on the upcoming CD and available as a download only. I would once again like to thank Alex Jones & Paul Watson for supporting my music and making it available on www.prisonplanet.com & www.propagandamatrix.com you can listen to "Alternate Agenda" by clicking here. The Yakima Chimps aka BP & Lance Ventura have begun work on a new Ambient / Improvisational CD. So far it is all recorded live in the studio (Moog/GTR) with no overdubs. Here is a sample song called "After the Meal" click here to listen. 11-16-05 - Despite being burned out after work I've managed to get a few more parts recorded on the BP/MP (thumper) project. It's coming along nicely. I managed to get some guitar, and bass overdubs as well as some mini moog synth sounds done. 11-8-05 - Yes... another successful session with the recording gear! Distortion guitar overdubs, keyboards, and more editing last night. 11-7-05 - After months of toiling, 3 different motherboards, 2 different video cards, 3 CPU's and power supplies, 3 hard drives, several sticks of memory, and so many different combinations of buffer sizes, asio drivers and software revisions it would make any techie's head swim... I finally ran the studio for a whole day with NO problems. I'm not going to hold my breath but things might just be stable again in the digital recording realm. I was finally able to get some work done on the new as yet to be named instrumental CD. Thumper (Mike Peterson) and I (BP) were able to get about :50 minutes worth of drums recorded on Friday which is next to impossible given Mikes busy schedule with the Seattle Seahawks drum line and a tour with the rock band Jed. Mike has also recorded on several other CD's this year so you'll be hearing a lot more from him. Sat. 11-5-05 Drum editing and arranging on "test2" of course this is the working title. also acoustic guitars, Sun. 11-6-05 Marimba, Organ, Synth, and scratch bass. more sound effects and editing... Thank you my wife for putting up with my sudden disappearance. 10-26-05 - I guess I'm going to have to troubleshoot the recording/software system. Last night I was working on "Tupperware Party" for the upcoming Yakima Chimps CD (an avant garde improvisational CD) you know... strange music no one likes and the system was just being flaky and locking up etc. I had to restart VST several times. BTW if anyone has a chance to see Porcupine Tree you should do so. This tour is excellent. The Chimps took a trip to The Moore theatre in Seattle to watch we also stayed at The Moore right above the stage area. BP out.
10-16-05 - I feel crappy today some sort of sinus cold. The wife took me out for brunch at a local casino for my birthday (which was yesterday). It was good I wish I felt better to enjoy it. Attempted a little guitar earlier but it sounded like I should just put it away so I did. I'm going to go veg. out... later. BP 10-15-05 - Taking the day off to do NOTHING... ok maybe I'll goof around in the studio a bit. Hmm... I should do a little studio troubleshooting and tidying up. Gee I'm older today. Later that day... OK, so I ended up finishing an avant garde improvisation by The Yakima Chimps. You can listen to it right here by clicking on the title: A Cabin Somewhere Else BP out. 10-14-05 - I finished rhythm guitar, ld. harmony guitars, and vocals on "Inside" by Robin James. The tune turned out alright although I'm not much into vocals I gave it an effort since the tune really seemed like a vocal song. You can listen to the song by clicking on the title or by going to the "music" link. Still having some audio issues in the studio that need to be worked out but I'll get to it in time. Happy Birthday Lamara! One year old today. 10-9-05 - Worked for a few hours in the studio on "Inside" by Robin James. It seems to be vastly different then the other versions of the tune I heard. I'm not sure if I like my parts yet. I guess I'll have to give it a listen later. 10-6-05 - Things are still slow on the music front. Working out bugs in Cubase VST really sucks... I wish I didn't like the interface as much as I do or I would have went to another program by now. I'm having to use part of the studio as storage since my kitchen is all tore apart. I've got plumbing to do, wiring to do, a floor to install (never installed one before) and bunch of other small tasks. I've been working on two projects in the last couple weeks. One is a Robin James song called "Inside" I am re-working the guitar and vocal it is kinda pop-rock. The other projects include a new avant-garde CD by the Yakima Chimps, BP along with fellow chimp Lance. And the ever growing and on-going project of archiving old material to digital format which includes old studio outtakes, Nikko songs, Saber songs, Jason International, The Mark Bowman project, BDN recordings as well as a lot of other stuff... I'm sure it will take forever. And BTW Nate wants his tapes back! and Tim wants to record drums. Well as soon as this counter top gets done I can get back to work. Over, for now. Oh, got some new autographs from some of my musical hero's for the studio wall. Marco Minnemann, Terri Bozzio, Chad Wackerman, and Billy Sheehan. 9-26-05 - I've been on a several month hiatus from recording to do some therapeutic fly fishing in Yellowstone but summer is winding down and studio season is coming on. Lots of projects in the works. Sat. 24th I worked on a tune by mixposure friend Robin James for a while. Also did some recording with fellow Chimp Chris aka Lance. We put down several tracks of bass and pots n pans percussion. This should prove to be totally wacky. I've also undergone a web meltdown recently so things my not work just right for a while. Gotta get to work (real job) talk to you all soon. 6-10-05 - Nate tells me Black Ice practiced over the weekend. Man, I need to start playing too if I'm going to sit in. Talk about out of shape I haven't even played a "cover" riff in at least 10 years... That's OK. I'd rather not. I'll stick to originals. I'll hopefully take part in the next practice as soon as I can scrounge up copies of these cover tunes. 6-6-05 - Yesterday I recorded drums, organ, clean rockman guitar, and a couple of distortion guitar parts. No drummer again. Everyone is already doing recording sessions and busy. I hate doing these parts myself! I don't cut it as a drummer. Rumor of a Black Ice reunion concert on August the 13th. I haven't played that stuff in about 10-15 years. It should be interesting. 6-5-05 - Work continues on the new CD. I recorded the basic tracks for a new song that reminds me a little bit of Styx for some reason. I used the Rockman Sustainer/Chorus Echo for the clean guitar and it really sounds great. Back in the 80's these things were all the rage. I finally got the new recorders installed and up and running and these things are a lot nicer then the old versions. With the old ones you could just about grill a cheese sandwich on they got so damn hot. On the model I am using now (Echo Layla 3G) the power supply is no longer built in but received through the PCI card which keeps them cool. Talk of a collaboration is in progress... I'm going to leave it a surprise for now. We'll see what happens. I'll let you all know when I know more. 6-3-05 - Gail Zappa has officially told me that I cannot record "Chunga's Revenge" by Frank Zappa. Oh well...
5-19-05 - Howdy everyone! Well the studio is still down as far as multitrack recording goes. (2) new Layla 3G digital recording units are on the way for a total of 16 total inputs and output which gives you an endless amount of tracks available. Should do the trick. 5-16-05 - Arggg... Stuff is broke. Digital recording is Down. I'm depressed, looks like it's time for an upgrade. It's been a week now and I'm going banana's! I'm thinking Layla G3 by Event. 4-28-05 - Drums & Bass time. Finished the drums and bass guitar on a new upbeat rock song last night... I don't know what the song is going to be called yet or if it will have vocals or be an instrumental guess we'll have to wait and see. News Flash! Blairnt Central's "Flight of the Grannom" makes # 3 on the Pop/Rock charts on Artist Server. Blairnt Central - Knob Salad gets airplay on AiiRadio Blairnt Central - Knob Salad gets airplay on 106.5 KAHS Aberdeen Blairnt Central - Knob Salad gets airplay on PittRadio Blairnt Central's "Flight of the Grannom" # 3 on the Rock Charts for Artist Server.
4-19-05 - Yikes. Started archiving old stuff. Rock Theatre here we come. Imagine a 4 track and the discovery of digital reverb. This could be bad. More later. 4-15-05 - Recording continues for the new CD! Almost finished with the Gentle Giant meets KingsX song. Stay tuned. 4-15-05 - Congratulations Mike Peterson (aka Thumper) for making the Seattle Seahawks Blue Thunder drum line. The Hawks will do well to have him on the drum line! Check Mike & Bill's live in the studio recording by clicking here => So How do you feel now 4-2-05 - It's Saturday and time for a quick update. I would like to thank Alex Jones and Paul Watson for featuring my music on both www.prisonplanet.com & www.propagandamatrix.com I would encourage everyone to give them a visit and read some news that generally gets buried by the main stream press. Time, time, time. Not enough. I'm working on a new CD that is pretty simple rock songs. This time with vocals unless I change my mind. We'll see. Gotta go. Here's a little quote.
12-30-04 - OK, I'm back for a quick update. Below is a scan of the cover art for the new CD "Knob Salad"! When I was finished with the music I had no idea what the cover was going to be or even what the CD was to be called so in the matter of a couple of hours I grabbed the camera and ended up with this. Oh, not to mention a few strange looks when I grabbed my wife's china and started throwing non-edible items on the dinner table. You'll also notice a song list of which you can download and listen to LO-FI quality MP3's of selected songs (I'll change these from time to time). You can currently pick up the CD at Rosevear's Music in downtown Aberdeen, WA. or email me. All I ask is a donation toward the cost of making these other then that the CD is FREE of charge while I can supply them. Lord knows the mainstream record labels wouldn't pay me to make this kind of music. And that's right folks just because your reading this now you can download and listen to a pre-view song from a soon to be released improvisational CD featuring BP on Guitar, Bass, Keys & Thumper on drums. Click here: So How do you feel now?
