The Blairnt Central Studio Log

8-27-10 -  Kira Small and Bryan Beller will be guests of Blairnt Central Music coming in October so please stay tuned for details. More on this later... Bill

8-5-10 -  Was finally able to get back into the studio for a couple of hours to do some acoustic guitar overdubs. Now off to California for a week.

6-27-10 -  Tried to get some recording done this weekend... got sick instead. hack... However I did meet a great artist off of the dweezilzappaworld.com website who is down with doing the artwork for the CD cover art.

Check out his work here: Nation - Paintings - beinArt Surreal Art Collective

6-21-10 -  Spent some time Saturday and Sunday in the studio editing keyboards and recording some lead guitar sections. Finally some tunes are complete (unless I decide to add something else later) the demo called "Boot device not found" was completely re recorded and has a shiny new name. John Novello of the band Niacin just finished his Hammond B3 parts so the song "I suspect" (something is really messed up) is now done and for the most part ready to mix. Every tune on the CD will feature some great guest players so here is the lineup for "I suspect".

I suspect" (something is really messed up)

  • Marco Minnemann - Drums

  • Arthur Barrow - Bass

  • Bill Pitts - Guitars, Ld. Guitar, Keyboards, Voices

  • Paul Hyde - Saxophone

  • Scheila Gonzalez - Saxophone, Flute

  • Tim Pitts - Guitar

  • John Novello - Hammond B3

  • Eric Jorgensen - Trombone

  • Aaron Arntz - Accordion, Keyboards, Trumpet

6-18-10 -  Earlier this week Dweezil Zappa was in Seattle with his band Zappa plays Zappa which is a band that plays his father Frank's music. Any time I can hear Frank Zappa's music being performed live I'm all over it. He was my favorite modern day composer. If you think Frank wrote just silly rock songs think again and listen to The Grand Wazoo, Orchestral Favorites, or Studio Tan. If you are not familiar with Franks so called serious works dig out the recordings and give them a listen. You'll be amazed at the complex structures and beautiful melodies that are in the recordings. Anyhow seeing that my own CD project includes several members of the ZPZ  band I contacted Billy Hulting the marimba / percussion player and current tour manager to let him know that I'll see him at the show. So Billy in his gracious host fashion had VIP passes for us waiting at the door. This was going to prove to be one excellent night of music at the Moore theatre. We made our way in to the show and took our seats. It wasn't hard to see or hear things from row A right in front of Scheila and Billy and watching the tune "Blessed Relief" being performed is an unusual treat that not even Frank managed to pull off in a live setting at least not that we know of anyway.  Overall the band was great and spot on if not a little subdued compared to earlier shows in Seattle. Still these cats are the best players around and a true joy to watch. Another special treat was the guest appearance of ex Mother of Invention Jeff Simmons who did vocals, bass, and guitar work for Frank. After watching the show from the audience he joined the band on stage for the song "Wino Man" with a loaned Les Paul from Jamie Kime. After the show Dweezil came to the front of the stage and signed autographs for all the fans who wanted one... what a true gentleman. It's all about the fans. Billy came out and we all went to the dungeon underneath the stage at the Moore theatre. All the guests and the band had a good time visiting while the road crew went to work. After talking about the current project for a bit and getting some photos we decided to go across the street for some refreshments and continue the conversation about every other topic under the sun including Frank. The front of house sound man Glynn assured us that we would never remember his name so we called him Henry and everything else under the sun all night. Jamie Kime, Chris Norton and a couple of others joined us. Also joining us was non other then Ryan Lacey the percussionist / drummer for the Irish band Gaelic Storm who appeared in the movie Titanic... you cant have a good party below deck without a good Irish band to drink beer and dance to right? After a little discussion about mixing the CD it was time for the band to head for the border to the next show in Canada and for us to call it a night... a very good night.

6-7-10 -  Hi Everyone and thanks for visiting www.blairntcentral.com where you can find free demo tunes to download and jam up your ipod with. Lots going on... still trying to get this damn CD done... how long can this go on! I want to start playing LIVE music. My friend Brian came out last week and recorded a fine funky bass part for one of the new songs. After spending the weekend editing, arranging horns, recording keyboard parts, and recording some bass and guitar as well it's been a productive weekend. Still looking forward to hearing some Hammond B3 parts that John Novello is currently recording, hopefully that will be done this week. Excited to see Zappa plays Zappa next week in Seattle, it will be nice to say hi to the band.

Until next time. - Bill

5-26-10 -  Hi All! Glad you could make it to the website... plenty of free demo music so get your fill. Just adding a little update to the site before I go to work on computers. Last week I did a guest guitar part and solo for Baracasa Bacardi who is a producer and musician working out of LA. In my quest for keyboard players I ran across Baracasa's music, nice stuff. Maybe we will hear some of it in the future. Spent hours editing "My Brain" this weekend. I ended up totally re vamping the intro to the tune due to a suggestion from my wife Christina. Sometimes it really helps to get another opinion on any given tune. I'm really excited about the song and can't wait to share it with you all. As ex Frank Zappa's bass player and Clonemeister Arthur Barrow said "It's bass gone wild" I'd have to agree. Looking forward to working on some bass overdubs tonight... gotta keep this thing rolling. Oh... got the new Spocks Beard "X" in the CD player, WOW what a great CD. Got to go. Bye for now.

Bill

4-11-10 -  Doing some sax overdubs with Pau Hyde, keyboard arrangements, horn arrangements and guitar overdubs are going well too. Many of the tunes are starting to resemble actual songs now and are nearing completion. I've got to say that editing the ratchet and plastic cup parts have been great fun! I decided to leave the "studio cam" off this time... until next time. Bill

3-28-10 -  Hello everyone! Tim, Bill, and Paul have been recording tracks for WWTV and things are rolling along well. Billy Steinway who is an excellent keyboard / multi-instrumentalist has finish some fine hammond organ parts for the tune beeswax (working title)... Welcome Bill. You may know of Bill from his work with the Jazz crusaders. We broke out the old "plastic cup" and "ratchet" (craftsmen) for some overdubs, some people care less for them but I for one love a good cup n' ratchet session. I've included another installation of the Blairnt Central studio log video update from the BC studio cam.

3-23-10 -  It is with great sadness that I have to report that fellow Grays Harbor musician Gary Evan's has passed away this last Sunday March 14th at his home in Aberdeen, WA. Gary was one of those disgustingly talented and self taught musicians who really shined when he played the Hammond. While I didn't know Gary well I was fortunate enough to work with Gary a couple of years back in the studio. Gary was a monster Hammond B3 player and did some organ overdubs at Blairnt Central on a tune called "Poker for Plastic Turtles" Gary will be greatly missed but his keyboard talents will live on through the music that he left us. Click on the link below to hear Gary's fine playing.

3-22-10 -  Recording continues with some more alto sax parts, keyboards and guitars. Paul Hyde is in the studio recording some saxophone parts as Tim and Bill discuss the arrangement. Meanwhile down in L.A. keyboard parts are being reviewed by Bill Steinway for the possibilities of further overdubs so stay tuned for more on that as things develop. I'm trying to keep a running journal of all of this but I am not very good at it as I am finding out. The following is an attempt at a video journal entry of a simple guitar solo overdub for the tune "Boot device not found" (working title).

2-22-10 -  Recording some guitar with brother Tim. Re writing some parts and making some mixes to get ready for some bass tracking. So while I am writing this update I wanted to thank my friend and sax player Paul Hyde for the whole Dr. Mumbai name for the project. You see Paul had thought up the name Dr. Bombay from the old Bewiched TV series. Another friend Dale came up with the idea to bring the name to the modern age and we changed it to Dr. Mumbai. And as they say the rest is history. Until next time...

2-1-10 -  Recording continues... Aaron Arntz is currently doing overdubs at his studio, Aaron is a talented multi instrumentalist known for his work with Zappa plays Zappa and will be handling some accordion, keyboards, and trumpet. Meanwhile guitar recording continues here at BC... It's been raining outside but here in the studio it's sunshine all day long. I think I'll get a Studio Tan. Bill
